Kim Clijsters wins the US Open!

This Belgian player has always been a joy to watch, and such a great competitor. She retired at the young age of 25 to get married and start a family, never thinking she would return to the game. A young player, with a grand slam title, Clijsters was burned out and not enjoying her tennis anymore, and had always said that marriage and a family were going to be a top priority for her.

She was asked to play an exhibition match at the unveiling of the new roof at Wimbledon this year, and she wanted to be in really good shape for it. As she began training for the match, she realized that she was actually enjoying tennis again, and after playing with Tim Henman, Andre Agassi, and Steffi Graf at the exhibition, her competitive edge was back, and she wanted to come back and play on the women's tour.

With the full support of her husband, and both husband and daughter traveling with her, she joined the tour for the U.S. Open series.

She was given a wild card to play in the U.S. Open and gladly accepted. She played absolutely magnificent tennis! Her hard counter puncher game, concentration and great attitude carried her all the way to the winners circle.

The only player to EVER win a grand slam unseeded with a wild card entry, she was the Cinderella of the Open. She broke down into happy tears after match point and the crowd burst into applause and a standing ovation. To see her accept the trophy with her husband and daughter in tow still gives me the chills.

This chick is a consummate professional and a great role model for tennis players, and, well everybody! Determination, skill, and a great attitude took her to the biggest and most cherished victory of her career, and it is so well deserved!
